How do I edit or delete a message?

Correct typos or remove a message you no longer need.

Updated 2026-10-14

Open the message menu, then choose Edit or Delete. You can fix a typo or remove the message entirely.

Open the message menu

  1. Long-press the message on iPhone or iPad. On web and desktop, hover over the message.
  2. The menu includes Reply, Forward, Pin or Unpin, and Save (or Saved if it is already bookmarked).
  3. From the same menu you can turn the message into a Task, Note, News post, or Event (Create Task, Create Note, Create News, or Create Event).
  4. After you create one, the message shows Created from this message. Open the card to go to the task, note, or news item. On that item, Created from opens this message again.

Edit or delete

  1. Choose Edit to change the text, or Delete to remove the message.
  2. If editing, update the text and confirm. FabricLoop marks the message as edited only after someone actually changes it.
  3. If deleting, confirm the removal. This cannot be undone.

Permissions

You can always edit or delete your own messages. Workspace admins and owners can typically remove any message in a channel they moderate, even ones they didn't send — useful for cleaning up spam or off-topic posts.

Tips

  • Deleting a message also removes it from search and any thread it started.
  • If a message has already been read and reacted to, deleting it removes those reactions too — consider editing instead if you just need to fix a mistake.
  • To send the message on to someone else, see How do I forward a message?.
