What is Ask?

Ask answers from your handbook, conversation summaries, a workspace search, and facts it remembers about you.

Updated 2026-10-14

Ask is FabricLoop’s in-app workspace AI. It answers from a handbook your admins keep, summaries of your channels and direct messages, a search of notes and messages you can see, and facts it has saved about you.

Open Ask

  1. Tap the sparkles control on Home or in the toolbar.
  2. Type a question in the composer and send.

On the web, Ask AI is also in the main navigation.

When a chat is empty and a handbook is set, Ask can suggest questions drawn from that note. Start a New chat anytime from the conversation header.

Give Ask a handbook

  1. Open Settings → Ask AI handbook.
  2. An owner or admin taps Choose handbook note and picks a note.
  3. Write the facts the organization wants Ask to know — how you work, where things live, and who owns what.
  4. To switch notes later, an owner or admin taps Change. Clear handbook removes the choice.

The note says “This note is used to provide context to Ask AI chat.” Anyone who can open the note can read it. Only an owner or admin can choose which note is the handbook.

Conversation summaries

Ask keeps a short summary of each channel and each direct message: decisions, commitments, and open questions. It uses those summaries when you ask about a conversation.

  1. In a direct message, open the chat menu and choose Chat memory.
  2. In a channel, open the channel name, then open Group memory.
  3. Open a saved point to edit it. Delete it, or pin it so it stays at the top.

If nothing is saved yet, the list says Nothing saved for this chat or Nothing saved for this group.

  1. Ask for a fact, a policy, or where something lives.
  2. Ask searches your notes, and it searches messages you can see.
  3. Read the answer. It draws on the handbook and on what the search found.

You can also ask it to create work — for example, “Create a task called Review mockups due Friday” — or to draft a note or news item for you to review.

Memory about you

Ask builds up knowledge from what you say, and later replies use those facts. When it saves one, the transcript shows Saved to memory. Choose Undo if that fact should not be kept.

  1. In Ask, open Memory (the brain control).
  2. Under What Ask AI remembers, open a fact to edit the text, then choose Save.
  3. Delete a fact, or pin it so it stays at the top.
  4. Save this chat to memory is on for a new chat. The chat still works when this is off. New facts from that chat are not saved.

An empty list says Nothing saved yet. Only you can see and edit these facts.

Tips

  • Ask is your private thread. The assistant behind it is called Loop. To work in a channel where the team can see it, message an agent already there or add one.
  • On iPhone, tap the waveform to use Voice AI in the same Ask conversation.
  • Free workspaces have lower Ask text and voice limits; upgrade if you hit a cap.
