Microsoft Teams vs FabricLoop

Teams is a serious chat and meetings product. Work still scatters across the suite.

Microsoft Teams is strong at enterprise chat and meetings — with real native apps. After the 2025 unbundling, it is also less "free with Office" by default. FabricLoop is a focused alternative: Slack-style messaging plus a complete task and notes system in one product, not Planner + Loop + OneNote + chat.

New · Better · Native · Fast

Where Microsoft Teams is strong

We are not pretending otherwise.

Enterprise chat & meetings
Calling, meetings, webinars, and org-scale directory integration are Teams' home field.
Native apps at massive scale
Desktop and mobile Teams clients are ubiquitous in Microsoft shops — we do not pretend otherwise.
Microsoft 365 gravity
If your world is Outlook, SharePoint, and Entra ID, Teams sits naturally in that orbit.
Compliance tooling
Enterprise agreements and compliance story for large regulated orgs.
Where FabricLoop wins

The reason to switch.

Tasks and notes in the same product as chat
Not Planner over here and OneNote over there — a complete task system and notes beside Slack-style messaging.
Standalone price, clear product
One workspace instead of suite sprawl and post-unbundling SKU math.
Open MCP agents
Audited, revocable grants and in-channel agents — not only Copilot inside the Microsoft cloud.
Message → task / note / news
Capture owned work from the conversation without bouncing across Microsoft apps.
Side by side

Detailed comparison

Honest on both columns — including where Microsoft Teams already ships something good.

CapabilityMicrosoft TeamsFabricLoop
MessagingMature enterprise chat: channels, chats, threads, and org integrations. Depth varies by SKU and admin policy.Complete team messaging: channels/Groups, DMs, mute, threads, @here / @channel, searchable history — Slack-style habits
Tasks (the gap)Work is spread across Planner, To Do, Loop components, and other Microsoft apps — powerful but fragmented.Complete task system: assign, due dates, list & Kanban, files, comments, @mentions, multi-group membership — tied to the conversation
Notes & docsOneNote, Loop, Word, SharePoint — capable, but several products for one brief.Real-time co-editing notes, highlight-to-task, approvals — linked to Groups and chat
Calls & meetingsIndustry-leading meetings stack — a clear Teams strength.Calls in the same app as messages, tasks, and notes, with AI summaries in-thread. Not a full Teams Rooms / webinar replacement.
Apps / clientsExcellent complete Windows, Mac, iOS, and Android clients — standard issue in many enterprises.Installable apps on iOS, iPad, Mac, Windows, and Android — same product as the web, not a half-hearted viewer that pushes you to desktop. iOS is a true native app; Mac and Windows are desktop apps from the stores. Same full-product ambition — with tasks and notes in one app, not suite sprawl.
AI & agentsCopilot and Microsoft agent story (license-dependent).Loop Agent (Anthropic Haiku/Sonnet/Opus or ChatGPT Sol/Terra/Luna), model costs billed directly; MCP client & server with audited grants; voice AI; message apps/agents in-channel with no slash commands
Product modelSuite bundling; September 2025 unbundling and separate Teams pricing changed the default calculus.Standalone workspace — New. Better. Native. Fast. Priced per user, not buried in a suite.
PricingTied to Microsoft 365 SKUs; post-unbundling separate costs for many customers.Free $0 (90-day history, voice AI 2 req/hr, test-only agent credits). Standard $10/mo or $100/yr per user. Why teams switch

From Microsoft Teams to one workspace

01
The suite tax got clearer
After Teams' September 2025 unbundling and separate pricing, many teams reopened the build-vs-buy conversation. FabricLoop is a focused workspace — messaging plus a real task system — not another SKU inside sprawling suite math.
02
Chat without fragmenting the work
Teams chat plus Planner plus Loop plus OneNote still feels like several products. FabricLoop keeps messages, tasks, and notes attached by design.
03
Open MCP and Loop Agent
Audited, revocable MCP grants, voice AI, and in-channel agents — shippable agent infrastructure without betting everything on a single vendor cloud.
04
Transparent tiers
Free $0 (unlimited groups & users, 90-day history, voice AI 2 req/hr, test-only agent credits). Standard $10/mo or $100/yr. Enterprise $20/mo or $200/yr with SSO/SAML and audit logs. Need HIPAA? We'll set up a BAA with you.
Migration

Leave Teams without orphaning your org

Pilot FabricLoop with a single department or project. We import and export whatever you want moved for free. Keep Microsoft 365 for mail and files if you want — move the day-to-day collaboration surface first.

  1. 01Pick a pilot team that feels the suite sprawl most (ops, agency pod, startup squad).
  2. 02Stand up FabricLoop Groups; move active channels and meeting follow-ups into threads with tasks.
  3. 03Roll out installable apps (iOS, iPad, Mac, Windows, Android) so Teams is not the only installed habit.
  4. 04Expand with Standard or Enterprise — SSO/SAML, audit logs, and a BAA when you need HIPAA.
Notes & sources

Dated, and honest about what we have not measured.

Competitor capabilities below are from public product and pricing pages as of August 2026. We do not have published switcher case studies yet — if a claim needs a customer story, we have left it out.

  • Teams unbundling. Microsoft announced that Teams would be sold separately from Microsoft 365 in many markets, with the change taking effect in 2024–2025. That is why this page treats “free with Office” as no longer the default. microsoft.com/microsoft-teams
  • Work fragmentation. Planner, Loop, OneNote, and chat as separate surfaces is Microsoft’s published product split — not a FabricLoop invention. We are not claiming meeting-room or webinar parity.
  • What we have not measured. No published switcher study, no timed “hours saved” claim, and no third-party review score on this page.
