Create a task from the Tasks screen for standalone work, from a section in the list, or straight out of a message or note when the work grows out of something you already wrote.
From the Tasks screen
- Open Tasks and click New task (or Add).
- Give it a clear title — this is what shows up in list, Kanban, and calendar views.
- Choose a group if your workspace organizes tasks that way, then save.
- Add an assignee, due date, and any details once it's created — see assigning a task and setting due dates.
From a section in the list
- Open Tasks in list view.
- Tap the + on a section header (Add task to that section).
- The new task is created in that section so you do not have to scroll back to the top.
From a conversation
- Open the message menu on the message that describes the work (long-press on mobile, hover on web).
- Choose Task (or Create Task).
- FabricLoop pre-fills the task from the message.
- Open Created from on the task to return to the original message. The message shows Created from this message; open that card to return to the task. See How are tasks tied to conversations?.
From a note
Apple apps: On iPhone, iPad, and Mac, highlight text and choose Create task, or open More (⋯) and choose Create Task. FabricLoop pre-fills the title when you highlight text, and writes a From note link in the task description.
On the web, create the task from Tasks instead.
Tips
- A task doesn't need every field filled in right away — title and owner are usually enough to get started.
- Duplicate a similar task instead of building a recurring one from scratch each time.
- On iPhone, iPad, and Mac you can also say “Create a task in FabricLoop” to Siri — see Siri and Shortcuts.
